Taxonomy
Kiotomops was named by Takai et al. (1991) [Etymology: "Kioto" after the Kyoto Site, where the type specimen was discovered, and "mops" meaning molossid bats.]. Its type is Kiotomops lopezi.

It was assigned to Molossinae by Takai et al. (1991).

M. Takai et al. 1991The vertical notch between the paracone and the metacone is very deep, and reaches to the labial edge of the crown. The trigonal pyramid-like stylar cusp B is prominently high and is connected with the paracone by the preparacrista. The mesostyle id posterior to the vertical notch. Between the stylar cusp B and the mesostyle is a deep labial groove touching the vertical notch. Neither basal cingulum nor hypocone is present.
