Discomyorthis was named by Johnson (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi-l D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. Its type is Orthis musculosa.

It was assigned to Orthida by Johnson (1970), Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhipidomellinae by Williams et al. (2000), Boucot et al. (2008).
