Streptis was named by Davidson (1881).

It was assigned to Triplesidae by Temple (1987); to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Triplesiidae by Wright (1964), Wright (1965), Bassett and Cocks (1974), Mitchell (1977), Williams et al. (2000), Rubel (2011), Hints et al. (2013).
