Taxonomy
Phalangium oculatum was named by Petrunkevitch (1922). Its type specimen is MCZ 121, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant (MCZ Collection), which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado. It is the type species of Petrunkevitchiana.
It was recombined as Petrunkevitchiana oculata by Dunlop et al. (2013).
