Costispinifera was named by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 7]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Costispiniferini.
It was assigned to Costispiniferini by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
