Eostrophonella was named by Williams (1950). Its type is Eostrophonella davidsoni.

It was reranked as Strophonella (Eostrophonella) by Williams (1951), Temple (1987).

It was assigned to Strophonella by Williams (1951), Temple (1987); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Strophonellidae by Williams et al. (2000), Musteikis and Cocks (2004).
