Taxonomy
Cochliodus striatus was named by M'Coy (1855) [Attributed to Agassiz, but Agassiz's use of the name is a nomen nudum]. It is the type species of Platyxystrodus, Xystrodus.
It was recombined as Xystrodus striatus by Woodward (1889); it was recombined as Platyxystrodus striatus by Hay (1899) and Hay (1902).
