Megastrophia was named by Caster (1939) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u D Give-l Sepkoski's reference number: 25,27].

It was assigned to Strophodontidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
