Taxonomy
Orthotetella was named by King (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse-l P Leon-m Sepkoski's reference number: 7]. Its type is Orthotetella wolfcampensis. It is the type genus of Orthotetellidae.

It was assigned to Orthotetellidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
