Zhouornis hani

Taxonomy
Zhouornis hani was named by Zhang et al. (2013). Its type specimen is CNUVB-0903, a skeleton (an exquisitely preserved and nearly complete skeleton with remains of plumage of a subadult specimen (see Bone Tissue) embedded on a slab (Fig. 1). A cast of th), and it is a compression preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Chaoyang County Zhouornis type locality, which is in an Aptian terrestrial horizon in the Jiufotang Formation of China.

Zhang et al. 2013Anatomically, CNUVB-0903 differs from all other enantiornithines by the following combination of characters: skull characterized by having a bifurcated caudal end of the maxillary process of the premaxilla, an oval accessory antorbital fenestra, large paraoccipital processes, and long basipterygoid processes; axis with short epipophyses; scapula with a curved blade; coracoid displaying a longitudinal dorsal trough that extends through the omal half of the bone; sternum bearing a pair of long, robust lateral processes with a triangular, mediocaudally slanting distal end, and angular craniolateral corners; and humeral head that is proximally flat.
