Taxonomy
Aviculopecten occidaneus was named by Meek (1877). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Weber Canyon, upper Coal-Measures limestone, Wasatch Range, which is in an Olenekian offshore shale in the Thaynes Formation of Utah.
It was recombined as Leptochondria occidaneus by Newell and Boyd (1995); it was recombined as Leptochondria occidanea by Hofmann and Hautmann (2013), Hofmann et al. (2013).
