Taxonomy
Rugosochonetes was named by Sokolskaja (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Serp-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1,34,994]. It is not extant. Its type is Orthis hardensis. It is the type genus of Rugosochonetidae, Rugosochonetinae.

It was assigned to Rugosochonetinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
