Taxonomy
Adocus inexpectatus was named by Danilov et al. (2013). Its type specimen is MMT 001, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Maoming City Oil Shale Quarry, which is in a Lutetian/Bartonian lacustrine - large shale in the Youganwo Formation of China.
