Striochonetes was named by Waterhouse and Piyasin (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 418]. It is the type genus of Striochonetinae.
It was assigned to Striochonetinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).

G. A. Afanasjeva 2004 (Binderochonetes) | Shell medium-sized and semielliptic in outline. Ventral valve moderately inflated and having longitundinal hump-shaped eminence. Dorsal valve moderately concave. Cardinal margin denticulated. Sinus and fold undeveloped. On each side of beak, bases of four or five cardinal spines inclined laterally at angle of 50 degrees to cardinal margin. External radial ornamentation composed of numerous very thin and smooth striae. Inside ventral valve, median septum reaching middle of valve length. Inside dorsal valve, cardinal process high, trilobate, and having alveolus at base. Median septum stretching to middle of valve length and somewhat farther. Brachial ridges absent. Relatively large and irregularly arranged endospines located on internal surface of both valves. |
