Taxonomy
Buthiscorpius was named by Petrunkevitch (1953). It is the type genus of Buthiscorpiidae.

It was synonymized subjectively with Compsoscorpius by Legg et al. (2012).

It was assigned to Eoscorpionidae by Petrunkevitch (1953); and to Buthiscorpiidae by Kjellesvig-Waering (1986) and Dunlop et al. (2013).
