Taxonomy
Curculioides gigas was named by Selden (1992). Its type specimen is FMNH PE784, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Mazon Creek (FMNH collection), which is in a Westphalian D deltaic mudstone in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois.
