Taxonomy
Ovoidites was named by Krutzsch (1959) [GENUS Ovoidites POTONIÉ, 1951 ex THOMSON and PFLUG, 1953 emend. KRUTZSCH, 1959]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Zygnemataceae by Rich et al. (1982), Vallati et al. (2016), Vallati et al. (2020), Clyde et al. (2021), Pérez Pincheira and di Pasquo (2021), Vera et al. (2022), Perez Loinaze et al. (2023), Nuñez Otaño et al. (2024), Perez Loinaze et al. (2025).
