Taxonomy
Acanthorhynchia was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo K Vala Sepkoski's reference number: 1,538]. Its type is Acanthothyris panacanthina. It is the type genus of Acanthorhynchiinae.

It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Acanthorhynchiinae by Williams et al. (2002).
