Taxonomy
Alkastrobus was named by Del Fueyo and Archangelsky (2005) [Holotype. LIL Pb 2562 (Fig. 1E).]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Alkastrobus peltatus.

It was assigned to Araucariaceae by Del Fueyo and Archangelsky (2005).
