Spheroolithus spheroides

Taxonomy
Oolithes spheroides was named by Young (1954). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is IVPP V730, an egg, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is gully between Chiangchunting and Chaochun, Laiyang, which is in a Coniacian/Santonian terrestrial claystone in the Jiangjunding Formation of China.

It was recombined as Stalicoolithus spheroides by Wang et al. (2012); it was misspelled as Spheroolithus spheroids by Zhang (2022); it was recombined as Spheroolithus spheroides by Liu et al. (2013), Zhao et al. (2013), Wang and Wang (2024).
