Hypothyridina was named by Buckman (1906) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife-u D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. It is the type genus of Hypothyridinidae.
It was assigned to Uncinulidae by Savage and Baxter (1995); to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hypothyridinidae by Williams et al. (2002).
