Taxonomy
Mesotarbus peteri was named by Dunlop and Horrocks (1997). Its type specimen is MM LL 11150, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Westhoughton open cast colliery (Manchester Museum coll.), which is in a Westphalian A interdistributary bay shale in the Wigan Four-Foot Coal Formation of the United Kingdom.
