Compsoscorpius was named by Petrunkevitch (1949). Its type is Compsoscorpius elegans.

It was assigned to Eoscorpionidae by Petrunkevitch (1949) and Petrunkevitch (1953); to Palaeopisthacanthidae by Kjellesvig-Waering (1986) and Jeram (1994); and to Scorpionoidea by Dunlop et al. (2013).

Lichnoscorpius was named by Petrunkevitch (1949). Its type is Lichnoscorpius minutus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anthracoscorpio by Petrunkevitch (1953); it was synonymized subjectively with Compsoscorpius by Legg et al. (2012) and Dunlop et al. (2013).

It was assigned to Eoscorpionidae by Petrunkevitch (1949); and to Anthracoscorpionidae by Kjellesvig-Waering (1986).
Coseleyscorpio was named by Kjellesvig-Waering (1986).

It was synonymized subjectively with Compsoscorpius by Legg et al. (2012) and Dunlop et al. (2013).
