Taxonomy
Praearcturus gigas was named by Woodward (1871). Its type specimen is BMNH I.534 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rowlestone Hill, which is in a Lochkovian terrestrial sandstone in the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Praearcturus.
