Terebratula squamosa was named by Mantell (1822). Its type specimen is BM B8292, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Platythyris squamosa by Middlemiss (1978); it was recombined as Capillithyris squamosa by Owen (1988).
