Taxonomy
Cheirurus cancrurus was named by Salter (1853). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chair of Kildare, eastern Ireland, which is in a Hirnantian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks/mudstone in the Kildare Limestone Formation of Ireland.
It was recombined as Skelipyx cancrura by Lane (1971); it was recombined as Pseudosphaerexochus cancrura by Gapp et al. (2012).
