Boltonia was named by Pruvost (1919). It is not extant. Its type is Boltonia robusta.
It was replaced with Boltopruvostia by Strand (1929), Carpenter (1992), Prokop and Nel (2004).
It was assigned to Dictyoneuridae by Handlirsch (1922); to Stenodictyopteridae by Pruvost (1919), Pruvost (1930), Laurentiaux (1953); and to Homoiopteridae by Clapham (2023).
It was replaced with Boltopruvostia by Strand (1929), Carpenter (1992), Prokop and Nel (2004).
