Archimetrioxena electrica was named by Voss (1953). Its type specimen is GPIH 194, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Scheele collection, University of Hamburg, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.
It was recombined as Metrioxena electrica by Kuschel (1992); it was recombined as Metrioxena (Metrioxena) electrica by Alonso-Zarazaga and Lyal (1999).
