Taxonomy
Meleagris tridens was named by Wetmore (1931). Its type specimen is USNM 12052, a limb element (tarsometatarsus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Seminole Field, which is in a Pleistocene fluvial sandstone in Florida.
