Eurypterus (Arthropleura) mammatus was named by Salter (1863). It is an impression. Its type locality is Pendleton Colliery, near Manchester, which is in a Westphalian delta plain shale in the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Arthropleura mammata by Pruvost (1919) and Pruvost (1930).
