Glassina was named by Hall and Clarke (1893). Its type is Terebratula laeviuscula.

It was assigned to Protathyridinae by Bassett and Cocks (1974); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Didymothyridinae by Williams et al. (2002).
