Johnsonathyris was named by Savage et al. (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-m D Fame-u Sepkoski's reference number: 53]. Its type is Johnsonathyris adrianensis.

N. M. Savage et al. 1978 | A small subglobular Athyridi dae, subcircular to pentagonal in outline. The anterior commissure is strongly uniplicate. Short, laterally convex dental lamellae lie close to the valve walls. The imperforate cardinal plate bears a shallow trough containing a small median ridge. The brachidium has spiralia with about six volutions j oined by a V-shaped jugum placed anterior of midlength. No jugal saddle or jugal stem is present. |
