Taxonomy
Porocidaris lopezi was named by Sanchez-Roig (1953). Its type specimen is Sanchez Roig Tipo No. 742, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Finca "Armadillo", Marroquin, Moron - Late Eocene, which is in an Eocene carbonate carbonate in Cuba.
