Taxonomy
Cowiedesmus eroticopodus was named by Wilson and Anderson (2004). Its type specimen is AMS F.64845 and is an impression. Its type locality is Cowie Harbour, Stonehaven (AM collection), which is in a Homerian fluvial shale in the Cowie Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Cowiedesmus.
