Pexidella was named by Bittner (1890) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 1239].

It was reranked as Spirigera (Pexidella) by De Toni (1913).

It was assigned to Spirigera by De Toni (1913); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Diplospirellinae by Williams et al. (2002).
