Taxonomy
Basilicus asper was named by Zhou and Fortey (1986). Its type specimen is NI80446, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Location 6 Horizon 9, which is in a Llanvirn marine limestone in the Machiakou Formation of China.
