Siphonosphaera was named by Müller (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Collosphaeridae by De Wever et al. (2001); to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Collodaria by Matsuzaki and Suzuki (2014).
