Glassia was named by Davidson (1881). Its type is Glassia elongata. It is the type genus of Glassiidae.
It was assigned to Lissatrypidae by Bassett and Cocks (1974), Temple (1987); to Atrypida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Glassiidae by Copper (1996), Williams et al. (2002).
