Taxonomy
Septatrypa was named by Kozlowski (1929). Its type is Septatrypa secreta. It is the type genus of Septatrypidae.

It was assigned to Septatrypinae by Jin and Chatterton (1997), Musteikis and Modzalevskaya (2002), Williams et al. (2002); and to Atrypida by Sepkoski (2002).
