Taxonomy
Scopelus glacialis was named by Reinhardt (1837). It is extant.

It was recombined as Benthosema glacialae by Fraser-Brunner (1949); it was recombined as Benthosema glaciale by Schwarzhans (1980), Nolf and Steurbaut (1983), Brzobohaty and Nolf (1996) and Girone et al. (2006).
