Lepadidae was named by Darwin (1851). It is extant. Its type is Lepas.

It was assigned to Lepadomorpha by Cornwall (1927), Buckeridge (1983), Jones (2007), Harzhauser and Schloegl (2012); and to Lepadoidea by Chan et al. (2021).
