Lychnothyris was named by Voros (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie Sepkoski's reference number: 881]. It is not extant. Its type is Terebratula rotzoana.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Plectoconchidae by Baeza-Carratalá (2011).
