Pseudoglossothyris was named by Buckman (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar J Aale Sepkoski's reference number: 872]. Its type is Terebratula curvifrons.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Loboidothyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
