Polyzonoidea was named by Cook (1895). It is extant.

It was reranked as the order Polyzonida by Santiago-Blay and Poinar (1992); it was reranked as the order Polyzoniida by Hoffman (1969) and Shear and Edgecombe (2010).

It was assigned to Helminthomorpha by Hoffman (1969) and Santiago-Blay and Poinar (1992); and to Colobognatha by Shear and Edgecombe (2010).
