Taxonomy
Stethothyris was named by Thomson (1918) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Stethothyridinae.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Stethothyridinae by Hiller and MacKinnon (2000), Williams et al. (2006).
