Stiphrothyris was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1,872]. It is not extant. Its type is Terebratula cheltensis.
It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Loboidothyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
