Texarina was named by Cooper and Grant (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 7]. Its type is Texasia oblongata.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cryptonellinae by Williams et al. (2006).
