Taxonomy
Tibetothyris was named by Jin and Sun (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Tibetothyris depressa.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dielasmatinae by Williams et al. (2006).
