Taxonomy
Cyathophycus was named by Walcott (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi S Wenl-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Cyathophycus reticulatus.

It was assigned to Hintzespongiidae by Rigby et al. (1998); and to Reticulosa by Sepkoski (2002).
