Taxonomy
Pantolestes longieundus was named by Cope (1872). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Black's Fork, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Pantolestes.

It was recombined as Notharctus longicaudus by Cope (1873); it was recombined as Tomitherium longicaudum by Cope (1873); it was corrected as Pantolestes longicaudus by Cope (1871), Cope (1875), Hay (1902), Matthew (1909), Hay (1930), Gazin (1958), Gazin (1976).
